#ZumaMustFall

www,google.co.za

Background

On an ordinary day the silence was broken when masses of protesters crossed the very prominent Mandela Bridge, in Braamfontein. People of all colours marched with one goal in mind, that the president of the Republic of South Africa, Mr Jacob Zuma must be demoted as leader of the nation. This only started as a hash tag that trended on twitter. It then became the protest that was. This surfaced after Zuma shuffled three different individuals in the Ministry of Finance in two weeks, not forgetting the Nkandla saga. Strategic move from Maimane. Check mate !!

Mmusi Maimane

It seems as though it was a hashtag that surfaced after Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane tweeted “In conclusion: it’s time that we fire Jacob Zuma. #ZumaMustFall.” This is after President Jacob Zuma announced that Pravin Gordhan was re-appointed as Minister of Finance. I personally think that Mmusi Maimane was accurate in his comments about President Jacob Zuma, hence Zuma single handedly crippled the economy of South Africa. It was a strategic move from Mmusi Maimane. He knows that he is an established thought leader and his comment was going to have an impact such that the hashtag was going to develop into a movement. This could also benefit him when it comes to the upcoming local elections. That was a great move from Mmusi Maimane. How Juju responded and how he should have reacted.

Julius Malema

According to businesstech.co.za Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema took to social media to express his personal views, stating that President Jacob Zuma will be demoted as leader of the country only by the work of the poor, black majority and not by a hashtag or white capitalists. We all have rebellious moments but Julius Malema responded recklessly on twitter and came across just too strong. I would have appreciated it if Julius Malema expressed his opinion in a more diplomatic manner without having to offend anyone and coming across as racist. I am not saying he should be stripped off his right to freedom of expression but rather stress his opinion in a way that does not scorn other individuals or groups. You can find more information on how Juju responded by clicking on the following link iol.co.za. The EFF recently published a song on YouTube that communicates that the Zuptas must fall. That's a story for another day.

The ANCs communication strategy.

The ANC reassured the public that Mr Jacob Zuma is fit to lead the country on their official organisational website. It was a good function that they made an official statement on their organisational website. I would have appreciated it if President Jacob Zuma was to make an official statement on television through a public broadcaster, so as to reach the vast public of South Africa. In the official statement he would have told the public that he was going to pay back the money that he used to build Nkandla and then apologise for deceiving the public. He also should have taken liability for the shuffling of three individuals in the vital Ministry of Finance in two weeks. This in reference to ewn.co.za

In conclusion.

The pubic created personalised memes that were hilariously out of this world, in response of the Zuma must fall hashtag. I did not come across a brand that tweeted too often or over shared. Some of the public members used short hand and published content just to get it off their chests. This is not advisable as this could have harsh consequences on their brands. Other than that, a lot of parties followed the guidelines of using social media strategically. Word of advice, please always ensure that the spelling and grammar of the content that you publish is on point.

  1. zuma must fall is a broad topic and the fact that you included every political parties that is apart of this campaign says a lot about the true origin of the hashtag

  2. I think the formed hashtag has a point because since Zuma has been in presidency the parliament is no longer respected people say what they want while he is there, the country needs a president that can be respected like the previous ones. #ZumaMustFall

    1. The image of the Republic of South has been tarnished and yet he is still the president. He should step down because he has caused more than enough damage.

    1. We are all entitled to our own opinions and I respect that. But I think it is time someone broke the silence. I can't breathe.

  8. The parliament should wait for his term to come to an end then kick him out.

  9. I support this Zuma must fall movement, but at the same time I feel that both his good and bad works should be acknowledged, we as South African citizens must be as philosophical as possible when it comes to such delicate matters. Everyone makes mistakes presidents too, does that mean whenever time an appointed president makes a mistake he/she should be immediately removed from his position? I don't think so.

  10. The problem is that citizens of South Africa were deceived by the president of South Africa. When he initially said that he did not use the states money to renovate Inkandla, but the public protector Thuli Madonsela later found out that he had done so. When questioned in parliament about Inkandla, he made a mockery out us as he laughed. Is that a man who is capable of leading a country?

  12. Zuma is just something else, his relationship with the Gupta family turned him into someone who can't be called a leader.
